Bryan softball team set for bi-district game against Vista Ridge

The Bryan softball team, which lost its last two District 14-6A games, will try to turn things around against the Vista Ridge Lady Rangers at 7 p.m. Friday in Class 6A bi-district play at Taylor.

Bryan (24-10 13-3) lost one-run games last week to Cypress Ranch (20-5, 14-2) and Cypress Woods (15-12, 12-4) to tie Bridgeland (19-7, 13-3) for second place in 14-6A. The Lady Vikings won a coin toss for the district’s second seed, but Vista Ridge won a coin toss to play a one-game bi-district series.

Bryan, making its 23rd playoff appearance, is led by freshman Jessica Adams who has 13 home runs, a school record for a season, with 31 RBIs. She is 19-7 in the circle with a 1.02 ERA.

Vista Ridge (14-9, 11-5 in 13-6A) ended the regular season with a 13-7, eight-inning victory over Round Rock, which tied the game at 4 in the seventh with a two-out, two-run homer by pinch hitter Nikki Ramirez. Vista Ridge’s Lelis Boatman had two hits in the nine-run eighth inning, knocking in three runs.

The school, which opened in 2004 with only freshmen, has made the playoffs 14 of the last 15 years with the best effort a state tournament appearance in 2009. The Lady Rangers defeated A&M Consolidated that year in the regional semifinals.
